Steenbras Lookout Point has always been one of the highlights featured in Gordon's Bay. This coastal town in Cape Town sports stunning views all year round and is known for its comfortable living. Steenbras Lookout Point is one of the best spots to take in the jaw-dropping mountains and awe-inspiring beauty of the ocean.

All the way to the top

Getting to the Steenbras Lookout Point will see you taking a scenic drive up the mountainside overlooking Gordon's Bay. Park your car and make your way through a pathway that will take you to the clearing that ensures you get an ideal vantage point of the surroundings. The steep slopes make the beachfront properties look even more desirable from this point of view, with Somerset West in the distance. From here, you can overlook the blue waters of False Bay and enjoy a salty, ocean breeze.

Cafe Zest is another eye-catching hotspot in Gordon's Bay from which to enjoy the view while tucking into fresh, mediterranean cuisine. This restaurant is one of the town's most popular eateries and a wonderful location to host parties or special events.

Walk the trail

You can also choose to embark on a walking trail up the mountain. This 6,8 km trail is a route that takes roughly over two hours to complete and is for those trail walkers and runners who are up for a challenge. Choosing the trail route means you will have an in-depth experience of the Steenbras Lookout Point as a water treatment plant and be able to identify some indigenous plants and trees along the way. You may encounter other walkers and runners, as this is a popular route, but still expect to have a peaceful trail adventure as you meander your way through.

A dam to be proud of

The Steenbras Lookout Point conveniently connects the community of Gordon's Bay with the water treatment plant at the top of the mountain before a stretch that leads to the Steenbras Lower Dam. This road is mostly used for this purpose and has only gained popularity with locals and tourists because of its panoramic views. From here, you are also able to see the high-rise buildings of the Strand and an assortment of beaches that are ideal for sunbathing and relaxing on a warm summer's day. The Steenbras Lower Dam is one of the six largest dams that make up the supply of water to the Western Cape. The dam is 28 metres high and 412 metres long. When full, the dam can hold a reservoir of 36, 133 megalitres of water over 380 hectares. With water consumption on the rise and the recent water restrictions imposed in the Western Cape, many efforts have been made to spread awareness about the importance of conserving water and recycling it for residential use.
