Hillside Tavern was created by two families who joined forces in 1989 to create this stunning establishment. The restaurant officially opened its doors for business on the 18th of October that year and it has become an evergrowing and popular brand ever since.

The restaurant operates between the hours of 10:30 and 23:00 Monday through Sunday and is welcoming to anyone of all ages.

What is so special about Hillside Tavern?

The owners, chef and staff at Hillside Tavern all believe in serving their guests the best possible food, prepared with only the freshest and highest quality ingredients as well as providing friendly, yet professional service within a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Everyone who dines at this amazing establishment is considered a friend and is treated as such. Francois, Nicola, Chef Kevin, Jana and the Hillside Tavern team have all put their best efforts forward to ensure that the space creates "a home away from home" feel as they want their guests to be able to meet around a table while enjoying fantastic hospitality, a great meal and a glass of exquisite wine.

Hillside Tavern also has many achievements worth bragging about and it is all due to its delicious food and impeccable service. 

Hillside Tavern won the coveted Golden T Bone award for the best Steakhouse in South Africa in both 1992 and 1993. This restaurant competition, which was the biggest of its kind in South Africa at the time, was adjudicated by the late and very famous, Mr Peter Devereaux. The competition was even sponsored by the Sunday Times.

In the years that followed, Hillside Tavern also had the privilege of being runner-up to the winner on more than one occasion for the Chateau Libertas Top Steakhouse in South Africa award.

What can you expect to see on the menu?

You can expect to find exactly what you're looking for or at least something on par when looking at Hillside Tavern's menu. They have a huge variety of meals to choose from that are sure to delight. Get a napkin ready as you may start salivating when you hear about some of the meals they have on offer.

When it comes to starters, some of the items available to order include cold starters such as smoked salmon trout, beef carpaccio, oysters, a variety of salads and springbok carpaccio. Mushroom soup and Tai Mussel Soup are also winners off the menu while hot starters such as chicken livers, chilli prawns, deep-fried brie and trinchado are just as inviting.

For mains, Hillside Tavern has almost every type of meat under the sun available on its menu and you can expect to see meals that include beef, pork, chicken, veal, lamb, duck, ostrich, venison and seafood. There are also vegetarian options for those of you who don't eat meat.
