Discover your inner Rembrandt in Bedford Gardens

Category Area Focus

Rembrandt was a Dutch painter who earned his place in the annals of history for his portraits and portrayals of historical and biblical narratives. While we can't all be remembered centuries after our lives, it is the opinion of the team at Rembrandts School of Art in Bedford Gardens that, given the right guidance and environment, everyone can discover their inner creative genius. As a real estate agency passionate about Bedford Gardens and all that it has to offer, Seeff explores everything that Rembrandts has to offer.

No previous experience required

When considering going for art lessons, it's natural to feel intimidated and concerned about the fact that the only place your artwork has ever been displayed is your mother's fridge. When you enter your first art class at Rembrandt's these fears are quickly put to rest, because every technique is taught step by step and the focus is on creativity rather than immediate artistic excellence.

Art lessons for both adults and children

As one would expect, the children's art lessons are significantly different from the adult classes - although the principles of art appreciation and creative expression form the foundation of all classes. Children are taught to draw and paint, starting with simple ideas and projects, which become more detailed in the teens' classes. Adult classes deal with artistic elements like proportion, tonal values and perspective. Drawing and blocking are extensively covered, using media such as charcoal, pencils, pastels, and acrylic, oil and watercolour paints. If you've never used any of these media before - or if you haven't picked up a paintbrush since your primary school art lessons - never fear. Rembrandts will teach you step-by-step how to master your craft and get creative.

All the details you need to know

Art classes at Rembrandts are run from January until early December every year - and they are run through the school holidays during that time. Adults can choose between two-hour or three-hour classes, while children's and teens' classes are an hour long.

Being creative shouldn't be an inconvenience in your life, and one of the things that many people appreciate most about Rembrandts is that they have a shop that stocks a wide array of art materials, so you can pick up whatever you might need for your latest masterpiece.

Three reasons to embrace your inner creativity

  1. Creativity is a great source of motivation and a great problem-solving tool
If you're feeling downheaerted, annoyed or stressed, then you need to do something creative. It's a great way of keeping your mind engaged on something other than the problem at hand. You'll be surprised at how often the answer to a problem comes to you after your mind has been engaged in a creative task.

  2. Creativity can make you more productive
Being creative opens your mind to what's around you while simultaneously helping you to focus on the task at hand. Taking the time to participate in a creative or crafty activity on a regular basis helps keep you focused when it's time to work.

  3. Creativity boosts your confidence
Learning a new skill (and getting better at it over time) makes you feel good about yourself and this naturally flows over into other areas of your life. Getting creative is also likely to fuel positive emotions and help you to feel happier.
