Category News

As the week ends, the fun begins. The final emails have been sent, the big presentation delivered, and your office shirt's in the wash. Let the weekend plans unfold. But the freedom of choice is often an overwhelming one, especially when one of the most beautiful and vibrant corners of the world is at your doorstep, night and day. The Mother City spoils us with choice when it comes to deciding on ways to spend our free time. With there being something for everyone, it's easy to understand why. But this weekend offers something a little different. Something that only comes about once a year.

Celebrate the city in Green Point at the Cape Town Carnival. On the 16th of March, a year's worth of planning and creating will be let loose onto the streets in an unforgettable visual spectacle commemorating the diverse cultures and communities that continue to pave them. African identity is celebrated. Take part in the festivities by joining thousands of others in the Fan Walk where performers parade with moving floats, musicians, and extravagant costumes. With "Rise 'n Shine" being the theme for this year's festival, the Cape Town Carnival hints at their world class event being an eye-opening experience.

Dressing up and participating is encouraged, especially for the Fan Walk which spans across 2 kilometres of Mmain road Green Point. But for those who would rather play the role of spectator, seated as well as hospitality tickets are still available for purchase on the Cape Town Carnival's website for R350 and R1390 respectively. For those wanting to get the most out of their experience, the Cape Town Carnival Village is definitely the place to visit. The event is said to start at 14:00 with a live DJ act until 18:45 where the audience is given the opportunity to explore the many surrounding food stores. The main Carnival Parade takes place from 22:00 until 22:45, but the party is not expected to stop for most of the night.

Whichever way you choose to participate in the carnival, your time there is sure to be unforgettable.
