If you are interested in learning more about Cape Town’s fascinating natural history you should attend the Cape Natural History Club’s lectures on the last Friday of every month.
The Cape Natural History Club lectures cover a vast range of interesting subjects such as our navy history, the Volunteer Wildfire Services, The Cape Leopard Trust, fantastic new books by South African authors, and the rich history of Capetonian suburbs such as Fish Hoek and Sea Point. On a broader level they also cover subjects such as the Cape's flora and fauna, and sciences such as sciences such as geology, astronomy and palaeontology.
They also host regular excursions to places of interest such as museums which takes place on the last Sunday of every month. Some of the club's latest outings include the Porterville museum, the Simply Bee to learn more about beekeeping, the Spice Route, cherry picking in Ceres, a steam train trip with Ceres Rail, and Vergenoegd to see the famous running of the ducks.
The club was established in 1922 and is a membership organisation. In order to join and take part go to Quicket to fill out a new membership or visit their official website or Facebook. The yearly subscription is R100 which goes towards the cost of hiring the Athenaeum Hall and the running of the club. Lectures are R20 per person. You don't have to be a member to attend and take part in any of the activities. Visitors are also welcome.
