Bredasdorp is located about 187km from Cape Town and is the main town of the Cape Agulhus region of the Western Cape. It is located close to Arniston and Cape Agulhas, the most southerly point of Africa.
Bredasdorp offers excellent infrastructure and facilities for its nearby fishing villages such as Arniston (Waenhuiskrans) which is regarded as an authentic fishing village with pristine beaches and rolling dunes which has attracted holidaymakers and property investors for many years.
Bredasdorp is known for its Shipwreck Museum, which is the only one of its kind in the country. It offers an extensive collection of artefacts and furniture from ships wrecked along the coast and also showcases pieces specific to the Overberg. The Heuningberg Nature Reserve at the top end of Van Riebeeck Street is a must for nature lovers and birders and offers various short hikes and walks in the nearby mountain.
The area is a nature lover's paradise with a huge variety of fauna and flora including fynbos, whales, eland, blue cranes and Cape vultures. The De Hoop and De Mond nature reserves, as well as the Skipskop marine reserve, ensure that the environment is well-protected and offer a myriad of opportunities for outdoor recreation including hiking, fishing, bird-watching, swimming, diving, sailing and boating.
During the winter months, the area is very popular for whale watching and you can see the magnificent Southern Right whales as they mate and calve.
