A brief history of the area
From humble origins as a fisherman's village, Tamarin has transformed into a popular residential area and holiday destination. In recent years, Tamarin has become home to a new leisure and commercial area, and it continues to reap the benefits of ongoing development. The area, which is a surfer's paradise, was previously known as Santosha Bay.
Climate
If a tropical environment in which it is warm all year round appeals to you, then Tamarin is a fantastic place to be. The coolest months of the year are July and September, when temperatures typically range between minimums of 19°C and maximums of 26°C. The hottest months of the year are January and February, when the mercury soars into the 30s on a typical day, with minimum temperatures typically being around 24°C. Rainfall is relatively high all year round, but the months in which you are least likely to experience a rainy day are October and November.
Schools in the area
Schools in the vicinity of Tamarin include Telfair International Primary School, which is a small community school boasting a warm and happy atmosphere as well as low numbers in classes to maximise the individual attention that each pupil receives. Other primary schools in the area include The Paul et Virginie School, which offers French as a medium of education, and Westcoast International Primary School, which is an English-medium private school in Cascavelle, which is approximately 10km from Tamarin. Westcoast International Secondary School is also in close proximity.
Shopping centres
Ruisseau Créole, which is just over 2km from Tamarin, boasts a wide variety of shops, with everything from designer clothing and accessories to golfing gear and marine equipment. You'll also find banks, cafés and much more. Barachois Shopping Centre is also in close proximity to Tamarin.
Distance from key points (Airport)
The closest airport to Tamarin is Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, which is in Port Louis. This is approximately 52km away via the M2, and it will take you approximately an hour and ten minutes to make the trip.
Restaurants
There is no shortage of great restaurants to be found in Tamarin. If you're in the mood for Italian, you can't go wrong with a visit to La Cosa Nostra. Cafe Twenty Five Restaurant and Wine bar offers an exceptional seafood experience, as well as an assortment of other meals. A trip to La Bonne Chute Restaurant & Bar, which is the oldest restaurant on Mauritius's west coast, will give you an opportunity to sample Gibier gaming food like deer and wild boar, along with an exceptional range of seafood dishes.
