A brief history of Kinross, Secunda

Kinross is situated in the Mpumalanga province. It is part of what is known as Cosmos Country, due to the flowers that bloom in abundance in late summer. It is a small town, only 6.45 km, that has four gold mines. It became a village in 1915, today it has just under 16,000 residents. Kinross is situated between Trichardt and Devon, with its closest main town being Secunda.

Secunda is only 18 minutes away (18 km) via the R29. It is also close to Trichardt which is only 14 minutes away (19.3km). West of Johannesburg it is 1 hour 24 minutes to Oliver Tambo International Airport via the N17. And 2 hrs (157 km) via N17 and R21 to the centre of Pretoria. An alternative large urban centre is Witbank, Emalahleni which is 1 hour away (77km).

Summer in Kinross is warm with temperatures ranging from 20 to 32°C. Summer is from November to March. Winters are colder with the temperature reducing to a minimum of 5°C. Winter is from June to August. The yearly average temperature is 15.5°C.

Sasolia Primary School is situated in Kinross. There are 25 other schools in the greater area from which to choose. These include Secunda High School, a well-established secondary school. Shopping Centres

In Kinross you can find the Kinross Mini Market, a family supermarket, and an OK express at the Sasol filling station. There is also a Spar Express at the Shell garage. For larger shopping needs and entertainment a short trip to the Secunda Mall is a popular choice. The Secunda mall has a large variety of well-known retailers, restaurants, and entertainment on offer. There are 90 stores in the mall, and these include the major retailers like Pick and Pay, Checkers, Woolworths, Edgars, and SterKinekor for entertainment.

Restaurants

In Kinross you can visit the Sports Bar, the 'Kinross Workshop Lounge' which offers both dine-in and take-away options. There is also 'Melody's Fresh Baked' which has dine-in or drive through for your convenience. Shisanyama is at Elvis' Butchery, with a car wash conveniently on the same premises. The Brazillian Pub & Grill in Flame Lily street is a the local favourite. On Sunday afternoons the pub is packed with locals, enjoying entertainment by Metro FM. There is a great deal of restaurants to choose from in Secunda. These Include the well-known Oregon Spur, Panarottis and Ocean Basket. 

There is also Symphony's Cafe for coffee and breakfast, and the Moo Moo steakhouse and wine bar.

There are 4 Golf clubs in the vicinity. These include Kriel Golf Club, Walker Park, Golf club, Bethal Golf Club and Graceland Country Club, an 18-hole inland links golf course.

The Sasol Recreation Club is home to various sports and includes a gym and community hall.

There is a Stout School for naughty children, where they stay in hostels and are looked after by dedicated teachers and helpers.

Sasol offers housing to many of it's employees at the Sasol flats in Kinross, and also provide transportation to and from the factory.

Kinross is town to a wide farming community, with many farms on the outskirts of town.

And, if you are looking to shop and entertain the family, Secunda will not disappoint you, with its diverse choices. In addition to shopping there is not only a local spa and a museum, but you can visit the Graceland Hotel Casino and Country Club Resort

Enjoy a fun family day at the Lake Umuzi Waterfront. The Waterfront has the Aquazone waterpark, mini golf, and bowling. Lake Umuzi is 14 minutes (11.8km) from Kinross. And, if you enjoy swimming, fishing, and boating, then the Bethal dam is only 43 minutes away.

Kinross, Secunda offers both industry and the outdoors as well as stunning surroundings with many activities for nature lovers.
