Northdene at a glance

Northdene, which also includes Moseley, is a suburb of Queensburgh that is situated within the KwaZulu-Natal province. Northdene is a family-orientated area surrounded by lush greenery, loads of amenities and various property types. 

A brief history of the area

In 1924, four residential townships in the area, Malvern, Escombe, Northdene and Moseley combined to form the town of Malvern. In 1952, to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the throne, Malvern received municipality status and changed its name to Queensburgh. 

Northdene does have its very own piece of history though in Northdene Preparatory School which opened for the first time on 21 January 1952 in the Northdene Hall. In June 1955, pre-fabricated buildings were erected on the site of the present school buildings and by November 1960, permanent buildings were completed. 

Distance from key points

The distance from Northdene to King Shaka International Airport is 45,2 km (42 minutes away) via the N2. Residents wanting to head to Durban Beach can do so in approximately 28 minutes (23 km) via the M7.

Climate

Northdene has an oceanic climate. The highest average temperature in Malvern is 30°C in February and the lowest is 25°C in July. Malvern experiences approximately 1048 mm of rain each year with December being its wettest month.

Curry O's, Woolworths Food Court, Nando's, Fish Aways, Debonairs, KFC and Chicken Licken are also in and around the area.

Firwood Sports Club is another great place you can grab some food as well as partake in Bowls, Darts and Pool while the kids play on the playground.
