A brief history of the area

Northdale forms part of Pietermaritzburg which was founded in 1838 and named after two leaders of the Voortrekkers Pieter Retief and Gerrit Maritz. Later the town was converted into a British military stronghold to safeguard against potential attacks. As the town prospered, numerous British and German immigrants settled in the area, contributing to the establishment of charming Victorian and Edwardian structures and characteristics that can still be observed today.

King Shaka International Airport is a one-hour and 19-minute drive via the N2 (107,9 km) and Pietermaritzburg Airport is only 12,7 km (22 minutes) away via the N3. Pietermaritzburg Central is 8,8 km (18 minutes) via Dr Chota Motala Road.

Northdale falls under a Marine - Mild Winter climate with an average annual daily temperature of 22.87 ºC. The wettest month of the year is January which sees roughly 179.83 mm of rainfall while the warmest month is February with an average daily temperature of 27.5 ºC.

Bethel Christian Academy is a combination school in the area that offers an excellent education to pupils from Grade RR right through to Matric.
