A brief history of the area
Pennington is named after an English family who arrived in the late 19th century and farmed in the area. Later, a sugar magnate named Sir Frank Reynolds built a luxurious residence in the area intended to be used by prime ministers. Britain's King George VI was invited to this home but was prevented from coming to Pennington by his untimely death.
Distance from key points
The drive from Pennington to King Shaka International Airport will take about an hour and 15 minutes, covering a distance of just over 100 km. A trip to Durban involves a journey of about 70 km that will take just under an hour in average traffic. If you need to go to uMhlanga from Pennington, your journey will take you just over an hour via the N2.

Residents of Pennington get to make the most of a subtropical climate. During the warmest months of the year - typically from December to March - temperatures often rise into the low to mid 30s. In winter, a typical maximum temperature is around 20°C, making for an extremely pleasant environment.

Primary schools in and around Pennington include Pennington Primary School and Scottburgh Primary School, among various others. When your children reach their high school years, they can attend Scottburgh High School. Private schools in the area include Umdoni Christian Academy and Woodcrest Academy.

While residents of Pennington can head to OK Foods Pennington or Pennington Superette to stock up on their essentials, you're likely to head to the nearby Scottburgh Mall when you need to do a bigger shop.

Two of the best-loved eateries in Pennington are the Doghouse Craft Café at Basset Breweries and the Beach Café at Impithi.
While Basset Breweries is best known for its premium craft beers, it is also home to the Doghouse Craft Café, where home-style pies, homemade burgers, jumbo toasted sandwiches and wood-fired pizzas are on the menu.
The Beach Café @ Impithi is both elegant and casual, and a great spot from which to look for dolphins frolicking in the water. The views are described as the best in Pennington, and visitors should keep their eyes peeled for whales during the winter months.
