When John King acquired a farm in 1858, it was named Gowrie, and it was on this farm that the village of Nottingham Road was established.

Gowrie Farm became a golf course in the 1920s and so it seemed appropriate for Gowrie Farm to revert to a golf course in 2008 - 150 years after it was initially registered as a farm.
