Home to one of the largest citrus farms in the country, Mokopane is located in the province of Limpopo. Originally called Potgietersrus, the name was only changed in 2003 to honour a local chief and has been the home of some of South Africa's finest produce.
A brief history of the area
The Voortrekkers settled in the area in 1852 and it was initially named Vredenburg. The area was quickly identified as having rich, fertile soil and farming of various crops began.
The ancient caves are home to San drawings and you can learn about the early developments of the Anglo-Boer War and more from many local tour guides that explore the area.
Distance from key points
Polokwane International Airport is approximately 65 kilometres (55 minutes) away from the CBD via the R101.
Climate
The climate in Mokopane is optimal for farming and the outdoors. If you're someone who enjoys sport or leisurely time outside, this is the perfect place for you. The average daily temperature is 19°C. Summer months see temperatures rise to ±30°C. In winter, temperatures average ±22°C. There is a good amount of rainfall throughout the year, with the exception of January and July being drier months.

The Arend Dieperink Museum is a historic place that is home to the earliest history of the town. Expect to see relics from the first settlers to the ape-man of Makapansgat. This is an educational trip for locals and tourists alike.
Thabaphaswa Hiking Trails is the perfect place to plan a trek of sightseeing on foot. Select from a number of trails to suit your difficulty level.
