Leisure Isle at a glance

The tidal Knysna estuary surrounds Leisure Isle on all four sides, connecting to the Knysna mainland by a causeway. Leisure Isle was once a grassy sandbank, and over time, with the sea level falling and the sand-banks rising in height, Leisure Isle was formed. It was previously known as the Steenbok Island, as these small mammals were regularly sighted along with prolific birdlife. The island is 5 km across at its widest point.

Leisure Isle has over 450 homes, of which more than 50% are occupied by residents, and the others are available for holidaymakers. It is a popular destination for locals and tourists.

The island has the stunning Bollard Bay Beach, which is the perfect spot to enjoy the majestic views of the Knysna Heads. At low tide, you can walk across and discover shells and sea life. It is a wonderful place to swim in shallow waters and just enjoy the lagoon. The beach has soft white sand, and it is a popular place for sundowners, picnics, and enjoying the summer sun.

Leisure Isle has beautiful family homes as well as self-catering houses available.
