Located next door to Piggly Wiggle is Highgate which showcases an emerging wine industry, and you can visit the Highgate Vineyard for wine tastings and delicious food.

Shopping in the Greendale area

Howick has The Falls Centre and St Johns Lifestyle Centre. Alternatively, Pietermaritzburg's Liberty Midlands Mall has all the major retailers. Hilton is conveniently situated between Howick and Pietermaritzburg and has three malls with a wonderful range of shops, boutiques, grocery stores, book shops and other well-known national retailers.

If you are visiting the area then a trip to the Howick Falls is a must, it has a viewing platform and there is also a gorge walk with breathtaking views of the falls. The waterfall is 95m high and is the second tallest waterfall in South Africa and home to the Crowned Eagle.

For the golfers, The Howick Golf Club offers affordable golf, a 9-hole putting green and driving range. You can also enjoy meals on the deck overlooking the course.

Midmar is a popular destination on the Midlands Meander. It provides a peaceful respite with its large tracts of grassland, wonderful birdlife, and open water. It is a favourite during summer when visitors enjoy fishing and a variety of water sports. Self-catering cottages and the option to camp make it comfortable and easily accessible for guests wanting to spend a few nights.

Karkloof Canopy Tours, the weekly Karkloof Farmer's Market and the incredible bike and walking/running trails at the Karkloof Country Club are all within 20 minutes of Greendale and add a wonderful, diverse range of activities to those moving to the area.
