A brief history of the area

The history of Bothas Hill is as obscure as the maze of hills that make up the region. Some claim that Philip Rudolph Botha, one of the earliest inhabitants, inspired the name of Bothas Hill. The first Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa, General Louis Botha, was his grandchild. The first harbour master of Durban, Cornelis Botha, is mentioned in another theory. He started a hotel there called The Halfway House that bears his name.
