Graaff-Reinet at a glance

Graaff-Reinet, described by missionary David Livingstone as “the prettiest town in all Africa” is situated in the politically stable eastern Karoo , affording a healthy climate without malaria or tropical diseases.

Well known for its friendly village atmosphere, it has excellent doctors, schools and amenities, making it the ideal place for young families as well as retirement.

A good 9-hole Golf course, soon to be upgraded to 18 holes, is situated in close proximity to the town.  Proposals are to be considered for a new Golfing Estate.

Only two and a half hours from Port Elizabeth by road and boasting an all-weather air field. Graaff-Reinet, with its famous Valley of Desolation , is well positioned as the gateway to the Karoo for tourism from Addo, Baviaanskloof or the Garden Route .

Exceptional investment opportunities now exist in property in Graaff-Reinet. The town is surrounded by the new Camdeboo National Park and in its development; the town is set to become a lifestyle and tourism hub for the entire area. Historically, land near a developing National Park will rise substantially in value.

Limited space is available within the “horse shoe” formed by the Sundays River and within which the town lies. Such open land as there is, is attached to residential property. Demand for space will, and is, driving up the value of those properties.

An ‘antique' value is attached to the numerous old houses in Graaff-Reinet – after all, one cannot build an old house. These homes then become more and more sought after and lead the rising property prices paid because of this additional value. The most popular architectural styles in the town are modeled on the approximately 200 National monuments already proclaimed. The Karoo cottage, the Cape Dutch gabled house and the Victorian or Georgian styles offer character and an ambience for which Graaff-Reinet is famous.
