A brief history of the area

Lakefield forms part of Benoni which was established as a mining camp after the local discovery of gold in 1887. In the early 1900s, Sir George Farrar, the chairman of the local mining industry, undertook the landscaping of the valley, and as a result, Benoni was declared an official town in 1907.

Lakefield residents looking to reach Lanseria International Airport can do so in approximately 49 minutes (60,1 km) via the N3 Eastern Bypass while O.R. Tambo International Airport is only a 12-minute drive (12,4 km) via the R21. Johannesburg Central is 29 minutes away (33,2 km) via the N12.
