Arboretum at a glance

"Comfortable", "peaceful", and "sought after" are common words residents use to describe life in Arboretum. This Richards Bay suburb remains one of the most popular in town, with its blend of accessible amenities, a close-knit community, and superb real estate offerings.

History

In 1976, the South African government completed the deepsea harbour at Richards Bay to cater for the province's growing industrial expansion. As a result, the residential area also developed north of the harbour. Arboretum was the second suburb introduced in 1975 following Meer En See. An arboretum refers to a botanical garden devoted to trees, which is appropriate given the suburbs's leafy-green appeal, parks, and scenic views.
