With a name which literally translates from Afrikaans as "a corner of peace", Vredehoek is nestled on the lower slopes of Cape Town's much-loved Table Mountain, between Oranjezicht and Devil's Peak Estate. It is a popular choice for dual-income families, and has enjoyed a period of urban revival, with it's ageing blocks of flats making way for new state-of-the-art apartments. No introduction to Vredehoek would be complete without making mention of the breathtaking views, looking up at Table Mountain from one side and over the ever-vibrant City Bowl on the other.
A brief history of the area
The suburb of Vredehoek came into existence at the end of the first World War, with many European immigrants choosing to make the area their home.
Climate
Vredehoek enjoys warm, dry summers with maximum temperatures averaging between 27ºC and 28ºC between December and March. Winters are cooler and more rainy, with the average maximum temperature being 19ºC in June and July. Minimum temperatures during the winter months are around 11ºC, while the minimum in January and February tends to be around 17ºC.
