Category News

Looking for your next caffeine fix? Look no further. Here is a list of some of the best cafés that Plumstead and Diep River have to offer. Whether you’re looking for a casual meeting spot, a vibey workspace or a place to grab a light meal with a hot drink, the area has a few great coffee shops to try.

Café D’ Arts

Café D’ Arts is set upon the deck of an old house. It’s a friendly space with a nice view and happy staff. The kitchen uses strictly natural foods that are free-range and ethically produced. The coffee is fair trade and they cater to many different diets.

They serve various breakfasts and lunches, including Banting options, pasta, wraps and burgers. Café D’ Arts also has some freshly baked sweet treats available and frozen meals that you can purchase and take home.

One highly-recommended treat is the hot chocolate. They offer a selection of coffees, teas, smoothies, juices and fizzy drinks as well. The café is pet-friendly and available for functions.

Café D’ Arts is open from 8am to 4pm on weekdays, from 8am to 2pm on Saturdays and they are closed on Sundays. Find them at 2a Hanover Road in Diep River.

Dulcé Café

This global café chain has a store in Plumstead. Dulcé has managed to capture a niche in the market by marketing themselves as something between a restaurant and a coffee shop. Dulcé is perhaps better known for its homemade ice-cream (or gelato) and coffees.

The coffee shop offers a large range of hot and cold beverages, from espresso-based coffees and steamers to fruit crushers, freezos and gourmet milkshakes. Dulcé also offers a few mocktails for those who like something a bit exotic without the alcohol.

Dulcé has a great choice of affordable breakfasts, including cooked options, omelettes, slices of toast with various toppings and European-style breakfasts. Their lunch menu is just as diverse - offering toasted sandwiches, tramezzinis, wraps, salads, burgers, pasta, pizzas and some beef and chicken mains.

The homemade ice-cream served at many a Dulcé is something to try. Flavours change regularly and some of the options are very unique. Dulcé is open from 7:30am to 8pm every day of the week. Find them at the Pick n Pay Centre on Gabriel Road in Plumstead.

High Tea

This quaint little café is tucked away in a tranquil garden on the border between Plumstead and Wynberg. High Tea specialises in teas and cakes, but it is also a charming spot for a quiet breakfast, light lunch or afternoon tea.

The sweet goodies are baked by the owner, Irma, while her husband runs the coffee shop. Patrons can purchase small cakes and various baked treats from the shop, but larger birthday or wedding cakes can be pre-ordered for delivery too. The shop has 14 different types of cakes from which guests can choose.

High Tea also serves a variety of speciality teas, such as blood orange rooibos, Oriental black chai and berry fruit infused tea. They offer a range of coffees too, like Irish coffee, flat white, espresso and more. The food menu is quite small but the focus is on teas and cakes.

High Tea is open from 9am to 5pm every day of the week, and from 9am to 2pm on Saturdays. They are closed on Sundays. Find them at 53 Constantia Main Road in Plumstead.
