Cecilia Forest in Constantia is a beautiful place to walk, hike, picnic and get in touch with nature.
The most popular way to explore this lush forest is to start off at Cecilia Forest car park located on Rhodes Drive between Newlands and Constantia. There are two hiking routes available, one of which is tranquil and easy, taking you along fresh mountain water streams and under a canopy of trees. This route is perfect for a leisurely hike with kids and dogs.
You can also take the more difficult route from Kirstenbosch and head up to the Cecilia Forest waterfall. The waterfall is a magical place with its icy water and sense of enchanting otherworldliness. Both hikes will take you approximately 2 hours.
You can choose to continue up to De Villiers Dam past the waterfall but be aware that the hike does become considerably more difficult the higher up you go. If you are fit enough the views are well worth the trek. The dam is a great spot to spend the day swimming and picnicking with friends and family.
It is imperative to explore the area in a group and to be aware of safety. Make sure that you have a charged phone with you, have a proper idea of the route you wish to take, take snacks and water, and only visit the forest in daylight hours.
