East of the city centre of Pretoria is the verdant neighbourhood of Garsfontein that manages to preserve an sense of calm and tranquillity due mostly to the tree-lined avenues scattered with jacarandas, despite being close to major highways and is only 3 kilometres from Menlyn, one of the largest shopping centres in Pretoria.
Garsfontein is a relatively new suburb by comparison with those suburbs that line the centre of the city, but houses here are large and spacious, and their gardens are green and cultivated. New developments of townhouses and clusters have recently been seen but the sense of true suburbia predominates nonetheless, and some of the clusters are thatched, giving them a distinctly earthy and rural feel.
Garsfontein is well organised – it offers churches, a local police station, outstanding private hospitals and well established schools namely Garsfontein High School, Garsfontein Laerskool, Glenstantia Primary School and Constantiapark Primary School. It maintains an association of autism as well as a hearing aid centre. It also offers large shopping centres; its countless shops and entertainment amenities are all close by, with easy access to the N4 and N1. The locality of the Gautrain bus station is at Menlyn Shopping Centre. There are also several retirement villages located in Garsfontein.
Garsfontein is the ideal location for the young and old families.
