Welcome to Seeff Prieska
Registered with the PPRA, Seeff Prieska offers unique local area insight into this tranquil town located on the southern bank of the Orange River in the Upper Karoo region of the Northern Cape. The town's name originated from a Khoisan word meaning "The place of the lost she-goat".
The Prieska Lifestyle
Prieska is a characterful Karoo town featuring streets lined with historic Victorian homes. The town, which attained municipal status in 1892, is situated at the foot of the Doringberg. The local economy is mainly driven by irrigation, cattle, sheep, and game farms. While the copper and zinc mines closed in 1996, working opportunities are still provided by Armscor (situated nearby in Copperton) and the diamond mines around Prieska, which also inject money into the property market.
Prieska is a safe environment for families and is known for its semi-precious stones, such as the tiger-eye. Local points of interest include:
* The British Stone Fort built on top of Prieska Koppie using tiger's eye during the Anglo-Boer War.
* Wonderdraai, a natural phenomenon where the Orange River forms a horseshoe-shaped island, creating the optical illusion of the river flowing upstream.
* The Prieska Museum, which displays authentic farm tools.
