South Crest is located in the most northern part of Alberton (which is located in the southern part of the East Rand in the Gauteng Province).
The municipalities of both Johannesburg and Ekhuruleni meet up in South Crest even though the suburb is governed under the Ekhuruleni Metropolitan Municipality. This municipality is believed to harbour the cleanest water bodies in South Africa.



The N12 southern bypass divides South Crest from the other Alberton suburbs and is therefore known as the "forgotten area".



South Crest enjoys close proximity to the off and on ramp which takes you to the OR Tambo airport in 20 minutes, the N3 to Durban, the N1 to Cape Town and the N17 and M1 to Sandton.



Alberton's industrial area - Alrode - is home to a South African Breweries depot, Afrox Ltd, Nature's Choice, Chubb Electronic Security and a Caltex Oil SA (Pty) Ltd depot amongst others.



The suburb is only a 10 minute drive to the Rand Airport and shopping centres on the suburb's doorstep include Alberton City which forms part of the Growth Point Retail Property Portfolio, Alberton Mall, The Lemon Tree and a new edition to town: The New Market Mall.



Medical facilities include the Netcare Union Hospital, The Netcare Clinton Hospital, The Akeso Psychiatric Hospital and The Natalspruit Government Hospital.



Alberton is also home to many places of worship and schools here include government schools and private schools. The Alberton Christian Academy - whose curriculum is in line with American Schools - is also located here.



South Crest offers various property types within estates and in the usual residential set-up.



Many older, spacious freehold properties are available and estate living has also become increasingly popular over the past 10 years. South Crest currently offers four estates with cluster homes and sectional title units.



An older home in South Crest proper (the older area of South Crest) with three bedrooms and two bathrooms cost around R1 250 000. If the home includes extras like more space, a flatlet, an extra bedroom or a games room for instance the price is R1 650 000 on average.



New and modern freehold property in one of the estates carries a price tag of around R2.2 million.



Smaller, stand-alone sectional title units are priced at R680 000 on average, while bigger, more modern stand-alone sectional title units average out at around R1 077 000.



There is still vacant land available in South Crest proper where a stand of 714m2 costs around R 835 000 and vacant land of 550m2 in estates is priced at around R 551 000.



The suburb of South Crest is set a little higher than other suburbs in the area and therefor enjoys beautiful views over Alberton.
