Witsand is accessed via the N2 and then a tar road - R322 of 35km which ends in Witsand.
Witsand, aka Port Beaufort is an exceptionally beautiful coastal village at the mouth of the tidal Breede River (largest estuary in the Southern Region) which flows in and out of San Sebastian Bay, warm waters of the Indian Ocean.

Hot summers cooled by ocean breezes from October to March. Average temperature - 28 degrees C. Sunny winter days, with cool evenings from May to August. Average daytime temperature - 22 degrees C.

Sea and River Fishing, Salt water fly fishing on the Breede River Estuary. Deep sea and river charters. Witsand offers Safe beach walking for 8 km. Swimming -Breede River and Ocean .Whale Watching - May to November .Horse riding/Coastal and farm horse trails .Bird watching .Boating .Wind and kite Surfing .4X4 off road trails .Ostrich farm open to the public .Shell collecting .Shell fish collecting (need a license) - mussels & oysters. Diving and Spear Fishing - charters available. Last hand drawn Ferry at Malgas, approx. 30km down river from Witsand. Witsand is Historically interesting in that the Town started out as a Port of call in the 1800's for steam ships who traded as far as Malgas. Historical places of interest include the original "Woolstore" an old barn, " currently being used as a grain store. The tiny thatch roof, white washed "Barry Church" with graveyard and "Moody's well", a natural stone well, used to store fresh water and discovered by a ship wrecked sailors, a 4km beach walk from Witsand.
