Swakopmund at a glance

Between the ocean and the sands of the endless desert, you will find the quaint, eclectic little town of Swakopmund. Climate
Being located in the desert, Swakopmund receives very little rain, and the daily average for every month of the year is zero days of rain. The coldest months of year are August to October, when maximum temperatures reach just 18°C, with minimums of between 9°C and 11°C. There is very little variation in Swakopmund's weather, with minimums in the hottest months (January to April) being 15°C. Maximum temperatures during these months climb to around 22°C.

Schools in the area
Primary schools in Swakopmund include Namib Primary School and Tamariskia Primary School. High schools that parents in Swakopmund can send their children to include Namib High School, Westside High School, Coastal High School, Atlantic Secondary School and Swakopmund Secondary School.

Pro-Ed Akademie is a Christian private school in Swakopmund, catering for students in Grades one to 12 in both English and Afrikaans. At Swakopmund Private School, learners' needs are also taken care of at all ages, with primary school tuition being available in English or German.

Healthcare in the area
Finding high quality healthcare in the Swakopmund area is no problem. A variety of doctors, dentists, optometrists and the like can be found in the area. Spescare Swakopmund and MediClinic Swakopmund are both in close proximity when a local or visitor finds themselves in need of a hospital.

Shopping centres
Platz Am Meer, which has been described as a landmark development for Namibia, offers a one-of-a-kind retail experience in Namibia. It offers a wide variety of stores and franchises, including clothing stores, coffee shops, grocery stores, banks, furniture shops and just about anything else you can imagine. Also, no trip to Swakopmund is complete without exploring some of the fantastic art, craft and curio shops which dot the town.

Distance from airport
The driving distance from Swakopmund to Walvis Bay International Airport, which is the closest widely-used commercial airport, is approximately 44km. It will take approximately 32 minutes to get there.

Restaurants
There are some spectacular places at which to enjoy a meal in Swakopmund. Jetty 1905, situated at the end of the historic jetty in Swakopmund has been wowing guests with delectable meals and spectacular ocean views since 2010.
