Springbok at a glance

Namaqua combines the unspoilt expanses of Namaqualand and Hantam Karoo to form a region of exquisite natural beauty and contrast.

Springbok is the capital of Namakwa and the administrative, commercial, farming and industrial center. Situated close to the intersection of the N7 and N14 national roads the town is 550km from Cape Town, 1 247km from Johannesburg and 113km from Vioolsdrift on the Namibian border. Easy access, excellent accommodation and a well-developed commercial infrastructure make Springbok an essential tourist stopover as well as a prime area for property investors looking for "value for money" properties ranging from large plots, farms, Guest Houses and Country Lodges, residential as well as holiday homes and sea-side cottages along the West Coast.

Springbok lies in the heart of Namakwaland, Northern Cape, South Africa's biggest and least densely populated province. Consisting mostly of Karoo semi-desert and Kalahari thirstland, it's all about wide open spaces, big skies and immense distances. But it's not all drab and dusty by any means. The Orange River, which flows through the province, is a long, luscious, linear oasis where the combination of generous irrigation and year-round sunshine produces succulently sweet grapes for the fashionable tables of the world as well as a significant crop for wine production. Dates, too, are grown in profusion at Pella in the warm sunshine. The Ai Ais/Richtersveld Transfrontier Park consists mostly of a spectacular desert mountain range that straddles the Orange River, which is the border between the Northern Cape and Namibia. It's a hotspot of botanical diversity with an impressive array of flowering succulent plants. In spring the sere browns and ochres of the desert are transformed into an iridescent carpet of multi-coloured flowers as far as the eye can see. The main flower-viewing areas are around the towns of Nieuwoudtville, Garies, Kamieskroon and Springbok.

The coast is sparsely populated with coastal towns of Hondeklip Bay, MacDougalls Bay and Port Nolloth slowly becoming an attraction for city dwellers looking for a peaceful and safe "getaway". Here Coastal property in South Africa is still very affordable. Seeff Springbok may just be able to help you own a piece of paradise in Namaqualand or along the coast from our MacDougalls Bay office.
