A popular draw card for Somerset East is the Walter Battiss Art Museum, housing the largest collection of this artist’s work to be found in Africa. A walk to the Glen Avon falls is a wonderful experience, with deep pools below the waterfall to cool off after the walk, just far enough for the inexperienced walker not to be discouraged. This waterfall is one of the largest drops of water on private land. Somerset East also offers the following for the tourist. There is bowls, birding, canoeing, fly fishing, camping, 4 x 4 trails, gymnasiums, hiking, horse riding and river tubing. The yearly Biltong festival draws thousands of visitors with several hundreds of stalls, numerous South African artists and of course, lots and lots of Biltong.
