A brief history of the area

Sandton started out differently than the glitzy city it is today. Initially, an area that was home to many horse holdings and stables, this small residential area grew to become a breeding ground for the upper-crust, elites of society. It was given municipality status in 1969 as its independence and popularity continued to grow.

Modern developments began in the area soon after and it became a hub of small businesses and a symbol of national growth.

Distance from key points (Airport/CBD)

O.R Tambo International Airport is approximately 30,4 km (34 minutes) away via the N3 Eastern Bypass. Johannesburg's CBD is 15,2 km (22 minutes) away via the M1 or De Villiers Graaf Motorway. There are easily accessible highways in and out of the city.

Climate

Sandton has a subtropical highland climate. Johannesburg is known for having dry summers and wet winters. Temperatures can be expected to drop below 10°C during the cold months and reach highs of 30°C in summer.
