The Crags at a glance

The Crags is a rural area 20km east of Plettenberg Bay, framed by the Tsitsikamma Mountains and the warm Indian Ocean. This is the ideal situation for those wishing to live the country life where many properties are farms, smallholdings or nurseries. The Crags is also polo country, and home to the Garden Route's first vineyard.

The Crags has drawn to itself many artists, potters and crafts people, as well as individuals who are committed to a green, sustainable lifestyle. There is even a theatre and an established eco village which borders the Tsitsikamma Nature Reserve.

The spectacular beaches of Keurbooms and Nature's Valley are within a ten to fifteen minute drive, while those who prefer to use shank's pony might enjoy a beautiful half-hour walk which brings them onto an isolated rocky beach, with rock pools and a large cave. There are fifty charted walks in the area!

For families who appreciate wildlife there is much to experience: horse trails, and five sanctuaries each respectively devoted to monkeys, birds, cheetah and small cat, snakes and elephant.

Although very rural in character The Crags has a couple of shops where you can purchase basic foodstuffs, and several outlets for beautiful locally handmade fabrics, clothes and other crafted artefacts. There are also three lovely restaurants, a farmstall and coffee shop.

Lastly, it will be of interest to parents of young children that an eco preschool recently opened its doors in The Crags, and is already enthusiastically supported.
