Napier at a glance

The breathtakingly beautiful town known as Napier is located in the Western Cape, South Africa. Nestled at the base of the Soetmuisberg mountain range, Napier is encompassed by vast farmlands of wheat, barley, and canola, offering stunning panoramic views. Noted as one of the best small towns in South Africa, this family-friendly suburb is a great place to live.

A brief history of the area

The town of Napier has its roots in a disagreement between two neighbors, Michiel van Breda and Pieter Voltelyn van der Byl, in 1838 regarding the location of the community's church. Van Breda preferred his farm, Langefontein, as the site, while van der Byl wanted it erected on his property, Klipdrift. Since neither party was willing to yield, churches were constructed on both properties. The settlement of Bredasdorp developed around van Breda's church, while Napier was established around van der Byl's church and named after Sir George Thomas Napier, the British governor of the Cape Province at the time.
