Middelburg is situated in the Mpumalanga Province of South Africa. It is a large industrial, mining, and agricultural town. Known as the Steel Capital of South Africa, it has two open-cast mining operations, Middleburg South and Middelburg North.
It is also conveniently situated close to Witbank/Emalahleni and halfway between Pretoria and Lydenberg.
Middelburg South is a well-established suburb on the southeastern side of Middelburg, bordering the railway line that passes through the town.
