A brief history of the area

Mbabane's story begins in the 1750s, when Chief Mbabane Kunene, after whom the city is named, made the area his home. In 1903, following the end of the Ango-Boer War, it became eSwatini's British colonial capacity. The first post office opened its doors in 1906, but it was only after the country gained its independence in 1968 that Mbabane began to expand, later receiving "city" status in 1992.

Climate

For those who enjoy year-round temperature weather, Mbabane could easily be paradise. The hottest months of the year are January, February and March, in which maximum temperatures are around 25ºC, dropping to approximately 15ºC at night. The coolest months are June and July, when it tends to be about 20ºC during the heat of the day and around 6ºC at night. Mbabane receives the majority of its rainfall between October and March.
