A brief history of the area

Malmesbury's original settlers were attracted to the area as the result of a sulphur chloride mineral spring, which quickly became famous for its healing powers. Malmesbury got its name in 1829, in honour of the Earl of Malmesbury.

As a result of its close proximity to Cape Town, Malmesbury enjoys similar weather to the Mother City, with the wettest months of the year being June, July and August. Average temperatures in the winter months range from minimums of 6°C to highs of approximately 20°C. In summer, the mercury can rise as high as 31°C on a typical day, falling to about 14°C at night.
