A brief history of the area
Langebaan was founded in 1922. Previously a whaling station, the Great Depression ended the trade. Langebaan grew in prosperity through its fishing industry. It is now one of the Western Cape's most popular towns.

Drive 16 minutes from Langebaan central, and you'll find the West Coast National Park. This park provides game drives, picnic/braai areas, hiking trails, and bird watching. Late July to early October provides the best time to enjoy the park when flowers are in full bloom.
5. Sunny Park Fun Park
You can take advantage of Langebaan's beautiful weather at the Sunny Park Fun Park. From pedal karts, mini golf, paintball to water slides, there's something for everyone to enjoy.
Museums and landmarks
1. West Coast Fossil Park
Take a trip back some 5 million years ago with the West Coast Fossil Park. You'll get to see fossils of bears, sabre-tooth cats, short-necked giraffes and many other exotic animals which inhabited the west coast area. A new exhibition centre opened in October 2018, promising more educational fun for the whole family.
2. Schaapen Island
Schaapen Island was once used as a stopover to repair ships. With its soft morning mists, Schaapen Island is a lovely tourist spot. While it's a restricted site, you'll find it worthwhile; there are plenty of birds, seals and rabbits to see.
