A brief history of the area

Archaeological discoveries in Knysna, including forty fossilised hominid footprints dating back approximately 90,000 years, provide evidence that humans have been living in the area for more than 300,000 years. The first inhabitants were the San Hunter-gatherer peoples who lived in most of Southern Africa during the Paleolithic era. Over time, these people were displaced and assimilated by the Khoekhoe peoples who migrated southward.

Knysna residents looking to reach George Airport can do so in approximately 56 minutes (70 km) via the N2 and Knysna Airfield is a 20-minute drive (20,3 km) via the N2 as well. Knysna Central is three minutes away via Gray Street.
