Goodwood at a glance
Goodwood is one of the oldest areas in the city and enjoys a central location with easy access to all the highways and excellent public transport facilities. It is named after the famous British racetrack as the area was initially used for horse racing. At one stage Goodwood had its own municipal status but today it is a part of the Cape Town metro. It is situated between the Northern and Southern suburbs of Cape Town. It is 10 kilometres from the city centre and easily accessible via the N1, N7 and N2 highways.
Goodwood comprises several suburbs including Townsend Estate, Goodwood Estate, Vasco Estate, Richmond Estate, Tygerdal, Ruyterwacht, Elsies River, Vrizjee, Goodwood Park, Goodwood West and Glenwood. It is primarily a residential suburb consisting of approximately 7000 homes. It has a vibrant community and a bustling commercial centre, largely around Voortrekker Road, but there are also a number of other main roads that cross the area including Frans Conradie, Vasco Boulevard and Jakes Gerwel Drive.
Goodwood offers excellent convenience for residents given that they can find just about any product or service around the neighbourhood. Aside from the N1 City mega mall, you are also close to Canal Walk shopping centre. A landmark in the area is the Grand West Casino, the biggest of its kind in the Western Cape. Here you will find a host of restaurants and the centre also hosts many popular concerts and events. Residents of Goodwood have access to a choice of excellent pre-primary, primary and high schools as well as Technical colleges. Other facilities here include a police station, traffic department, department of labour and magistrates court. It also has its own hospital and there is a convenient public transport system.
Goodwood is renowned for the excellent property value that it offers prospective buyers. Many of the homes are older and offer great opportunities to renovate, but there are certain areas that offer luxury homes with pools. There is an excellent choice of sectional title and full title property. Property prices generally range from R650 000 to approx R2.5 million. Goodwood is also very popular for rentals of houses and flats which are often in short supply, hence presenting the opportunity for buy-to-let investment. It is still one of the more affordable areas to rent in, hence the very high demand. Goodwood makes for all-round great residential investment.
