Windermere at a glance

Windermere is a cosmopolitan suburb that is often confused with Morningside. Windermere is bordered by Innes Road in the North and West, Springfield and Sandile Thusi Road in the South and Umgeni Road in the East.  There are predominantly more sectional title complexes than freestanding houses in Windermere. The commercial nodes are centered around Lilian Ngoyi (formerly Percy Osborne) Road and the very trendy Florida Road.

Florida Road falls within Windermere Suburb and not Morningside as is commonly quoted. Florida Road precinct offers every type of cuisine from Italian and African to Thai and Mexican and everything in between. It is known as a hotspot of night life and the place to see and be seen. One of Morningside's culinary institutions, Spiga D'oro, has reopened in a new venue. You can now get your fix of Durban's best-loved Italian food at 465 Innes Road.  Charlies Bistro is ideally located across the road from Mitchell Park as is Mark Gold and Vida e Caffe so you are spoilt for your choice of restaurants.  The Victorian and Edwardian style buildings line Florida Road and have been wonderfully renovated and restored as part of an urban regeneration program, offering a combination of exclusive offices, restaurants and boutique hotels.  The Quarters Hotel at 101 Florida Road and The Benjamin Hotel at 141 Florida Road offer stylish accommodation in beautifully renovated historic buildings.  The Hacienda office suites at 281 Florida Road is a building constructed in the 1930's in the Spanish style and features design flourishes, elegant columns and corbels which has beautifully restored and repurposed into offices, retail boutiques and coffee shops.  Florida Fields at 295 Florida Road is the latest addition to trendy hotspots.  A previous parking lot was converted into a luscious  garden with shaded walkways. Florida Fields offers an assortment of restaurants, bars, coffee shops and retail outlets confirming Florida Road is fast becoming the most vibrant, exciting and diverse high street in the country.

Windermere is the home of great schools and includes Clifton, Durban Preparatory School, Curro and Gordon Road Girls School.

Sutton Park which is located in the heart of Windermere was named after Sir George Sutton, Prime Minister of Natal from 1903. The Parks Department is working with Alliance Francais whose offices are opposite, on upgrading and introducing more community activity in the park

You won't have any problems crossing items off your shopping list in Morningside with Windermere Centre.  If you're a fashionista looking for a fix in Morningside, check out the range of factory shops that line Mathews Meyiwa (formerly Stamford Hill) Road.

Windermere is located less than 2km from Durban central beaches and provides easy access to all major arterial roads.
