Cullinan at a glance

The villages of Cullinan and Rayton are located in the fast growing Dinokeng area, tucked away in the north-eastern quadrant of Gauteng province, a mere 50 minutes from Johannesburg and Johannesburg International Airport and 15 minutes from Pretoria on the N1 or N4 highways. The Cullinan/Rayton and Dinokeng areas host five provincial and many private game reserves and conservatories in a malaria-free zone, linked together and being restocked with game to form a large Big Five game reserve on the doorstep of the Johannesburg/Pretoria metropolis. The area is traversed by two major rivers – the Elands and Pienaars – and is an important water catchment area. Three large dams – Roodeplaat, Rust de Winter and Mkombo – offer great recreational facilities for day trippers and weekend visitors. The area is also a Blue IQ initiative of the provincial government to establish a premier tourist destination and promote economic development of local communities close to urban Gauteng.

North-east of Pretoria lies the Roodeplaat, Kameeldrift and Leeufontein area (collectively known as Dinokeng) that increasingly offers exciting investment and development opportunities in prestigious golf and security estates, game farms and a variety of tourism facilities that are all close to major shopping centres, restaurants, some of the best schools in Pretoria, sporting  and state of the art medical facilities.

The quaint Victorian and Edwardian village of Cullinan is world renowned for the extraction of some of the world’s largest diamonds at the De Beer’s Cullinan Mine.  The mine still produces some 25% of the world’s finest gem quality diamonds and boasts a big hole that is four times the size of Kimberly’s famous excavation. The village features clusters of original stone miner’s cottages and new residential developments, with jacaranda and oak-lined avenues that flank charming guesthouses, a host of eateries, arts and antique shops.  An upmarket residential estate is being developed next to the beautiful golf course.

Rayton is a small village 4 kilometers south of Cullinan and is becoming increasingly popular with people who prefer a peaceful country life within easy reach of the city.  Investors have identified the potential of Rayton, located a mere twenty minutes from Pretoria on the N4 highway. Rayton has largely become a dormitory village for people working in Pretoria.
