Highveld at a glance

The suburb of Highveld is a fairly new middle income suburb in Centurion and was developed on land that originally belonged to Armscor, now Denel in 1995. Today the suburb consists of approximately 1,100 houses and 1,700 townhouses. This is a popular suburb and is centrally situated to the Centurion Mall with over 200 shops and restaurants, conference centres, secure parking and entertainment which is the hub of the area. Due to its location, Highveld is a fantastic area to live in with its well maintained and developed environment. The type of properties varies and includes houses, townhouses, duets, apartments, vacant land, clusters, guesthouses, security estates and new developments. The freehold stands range in size from 300 sm to 2,000 sm (average 600sm). The price of houses range from R900,000, to R4,950,000 , (average R1,270,00 in 2012) and the price of townhouses ranges from R380,000 to R1,275,000 (average R660,000 in 2012). The cost of vacant land varies from R430,000 to R1,200,000 (average of R700,000 in 2012) The suburb is extremely stable in that 70% of the residents have lived in their current house for more than 5 years. Within Highveld are some popular Estates such as Irene View Estate, Centurion Estate, Montebeli Estate, Highveld Estate and Eco Park Estate.

The suburb is bounded by the N1 to the North and West, John Vorster Drive to the East and Nelmapius Drive to the South. The arterial Roads provide easy access to the Highways leading to Johannesburg, Krugersdorp, Pretoria, OR Tambo International Airport as well as Lanseria Airport.

Highveld has its own bird sanctuary (Luton Valley Bird sanctuary) on the corner of John Vorster Drive and Nellmapius Drive.

Bordering Highveld are the Highveld Techno Park and the Eco Park Lifestyle centre. Directly across Nelmapius Drive the Agricultural Research Council (ARC) owns a large tract of farming land that many people access for biking or walking.

Within 1km of Highveld is the popular Irene Lodge as well as the Irene Dairy farm with its two restaurants and deli which is well known for its sale of fresh milk and cream set in a rural atmosphere. The Irene market is held every second and fourth Saturday of each month within the grounds of the old Jan Smuts farm. Shopping Malls in the immediate vicinity include the Centurion mall (1km), Southdown’s Mall (2km), Eco Park Mall (1km) as well as Irene Village Mall (9km)

Supersport cricket stadium is 1km over the N1 highway, and the local Makro and Sportsman’s warehouse is just over the John Vorster Drive (1km). There is also easy access to the Centurion Golf and Country Club as well as the Irene Country Club that offers all sporting facilities. The area boasts two Virgin Active gyms as well as a Planet fitness gym and a Golf Driving range. Schools in the area include Southdown’s College (2km), as well as two nursery Schools and a crèche. A selection of Afrikaans and English primary schools can be found in the surrounding suburbs, all within a 5 km radius in Highveld. There are a number of Churches in the vicinity, also Centurion Academy and Open window Design College. John Vorster drive. Gautrain bus stops are located at a variety of stops close by.

The Unitas hospital is about 10km away, the Southdown’s medical Centre about 2km and the Highveld Medical Centre is situated in Highveld. The closest police station is Lyttelton situated in Basden street. Highveld also has a vet practice. The Gautrain station in West Street is approximately 2km from Highveld, so it will offer a speedy alternative to commuters who do not wish to travel by car.
