Wynberg at a glance

Wynberg is one of the oldest residential Villages in the Western Cape. This special village contains the largest surviving concentration of traditional Cape thatched vernacular cottages of any area in Cape Town. They are distinctive and important part of the village history and heritage. The area also has good examples of larger and more elegant buildings from the same period.

Situated between Bishops Court Constantia, and Claremont, it is the perfect location for easy access to the M3 freeway and the Hout Bay road giving this area easy access to the False Bay Beaches and the Table Mountain Nature Reserve as well as access to the City Centre The charm of this area is in the architecture, which dates back to the early 1800’s.

Filled with mostly Victorian Homes, which were built by the British Military and a few thatched Cottages, all surrounding a quaint street of beautifully restored buildings, which house interior design, shops, clothing boutiques and restaurants.

Other attractions close by include the Maynardville Summer Theatre, which is held in a natural amphitheatre in Maynardville Park, Residents and Visitors enjoy the annual Shakespearean Plays, Ballet and Musical events that are hosted there. Kirstenbosch Garden’s and the Groote Constantia Wine Estate are both within easy reach.

The Area is also well known for its schools dating back to 1871, such as the beautiful Springfield Convent. Wynberg Boys High and the Girls school. 2 kilometres away is the upmarket Constantia Village Shopping Mall to satisfy all ones needs. All add up to making this unique little area one of Cape Town’s little gems.
