Bishopscourt at a glance

Recognised as one of Cape Town’s finest suburbs, Bishopscourt was laid out on the grounds of the farm Boschheuvel (bushy hill), originally owned by Jan van Riebeeck. Bishopscourt derives it’s modern name from the beautiful residence of the Anglican Bishop of Cape Town, and includes the handsome residences of Consulars and Ambassadors as well as homes chosen by many famous international and local people. Most properties have spectacular panoramic views of the mountain as well as enjoying the easterly views across the lower city. The area is protected from the “south-easter” – the prevailing summer wind.

Situated in the southern suburbs of Cape Town, Bishopscourt lies below the internationally famous Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, about ten kilometres from the city centre. It is about twenty minutes drive from the warm waters of the False Bay beaches to the south, and about the same driving time from Cape Town’s International Airport.

Own a property in Bishopscourt which is very conveniently placed for easy access to the University of Cape Town, and to the top Cape Schools: San Soucci Girls’ High School; Westerford High School (co-ed); Western Province Preparatory School (boys private) Wynberg (boys and girls, primary and secondary); Grove Primary (co-ed); Herschel Girls’ School (private); SACS boys’ school (primary and secondary); Herzlia (boys and girls primary and secondary) and Springfield Convent (girls, primary and secondary). The fashionable Cavendish Square shopping centre and cinema complex is located nearby.

Close by is Newlands Cricket Ground, the Western Province Rugby Ground and the Kelvin Grove Country Club. Several private hospitals and a number of top medical practitioners and specialists are located nearby in Claremont as well as various churches, a synagogue and a mosque.
