Bakoven at a glance

Bakoven is a small elite and very sought after area adjacent to Camps Bay on the way to Oudekraal, Llandudno and Hout Bay. It is really part of Camps Bay, only the Victoria Road and beach frontage fall under its name. The houses above Victoria Road are still classified as Camps Bay.

Bakoven gets its name from a rock which, at low tide, has an opening which looks like a baking oven. Bakoven has two delightful beaches with an intimate north-facing one favoured by topless sunbathers.

The beach is dotted with beach bungalows which started off as prefabricated wooden huts for soldiers after World War 2. There are still two bungalows owned by M.O.T.H.S right on the beach. For many years these bungalows could only be leased from the Cape Town City Council and the leases held the frightening words, that you could be given one month’s notice and that you had to remove your structure at your own expense, but all this changed when the City Council agreed to sell the land to the lessees. As a result owners have invested heavily in their properties and produced some truly beautiful homes. There are very stringent building rules to keep the nature of the house and any rebuilding must be within the existing “envelope”.

Many whales are spotted visiting Bakoven bay and it is a charming little area with many homes and guesthouses on Victoria Road servicing holiday makers.

Beach bungalows in Bakoven are particularly sought after for holiday rentals and indeed for longer term beach lifestyle rentals, providing a unique Bakoven experience with a lovely private beach but still not far from the buzz of Camps Bay.

Bakoven is 'n klein elite en baie gesogte woonbuurt langs Kampsbaai.Bakoven bestaan van 'n klein gemeenskap van Strand Bungalows en twee sonderlinge strande. Bakoven bied 'n perfekte balans van vakansie huur en 'n strand leefstyl.
