A brief history of the area

According to local legend, when the Zulu King Shaka led his army down the south coast on a raid against the Pondos in 1828, he rested on the banks of a river. When drinking the water, he exclaimed "Kanti amanzi amtoti" which is isiZulu for "So the water is sweet". The river came to be known as Amanzimtoti which translates to "Sweet Waters".

Amanzimtoti residents are able to reach King Shaka International Airport via the N2 and will take approximately 42 minutes (58,3 km) to get there. Amanzimtoti beach is only 2,2 km (4 minutes) away via Umdoni Road and Galleria Mall is only 1,6 km (4 minutes) away via Moss Kolnick Drive. 

Climate

Amanzimtoti has a subtropical climate with the warmest month of the year being February, which has an average maximum temperature of 28 °C. The coldest month is July with an average maximum temperature of 23 °C. In January, Amanzimtoti sees 130 mm of rainfall making it the wettest month of the year.
