A brief history of the area

South Crest was created in 1936 by NJ Basson, the son-in-law of Jan Meyer. Jan Meyer was a politician, mining entrepreneur and farmer who gave his name to Meyerton and Meyersdal (another Alberton neighbourhood). Although the suburb was considered to be part of Johannesburg, the Alberton Town Council later incorporated it into Alberton. You'll find many of the street names honour the developers such as Irving Steyn, Zeeman, and Boshoff. 

Today, South Crest has a vibrant community spirit. The local South Crest NG congregation hosts games for seniors to socialise. It's not unusual for residents to raise funds for local charities like the Alberton SPCA.

As a part of Alberton, South Crest enjoys a warm and temperate climate. Its summers see plenty of rainfall, while winters are on the drier side. The average annual temperature is 16.2 °C.

For primary education, look to Crestview Primary School, Laerskool Montanus Primary, or Alberton Primary School. Secondary school options include Parklands High School, Alberton Hoërskool, Hoërskool Marais Viljoen

The driving distance from Croydon to O.R. Tambo International Airport is 25.1 km. This will take you roughly 30 minutes to reach your destination.
