A brief history of the area

Meyersdal started out as a farm called Elandsfontein, and a young boy by the name of Johannes Petrus Meyer, aged 13, purchased a piece of the land from his father who owned it at the time. The years that followed saw Meyer marry and build his house before the death of his wife in 1870. In 1890, Meyer decided to build his farmhouse mansion which still stands today on the land behind the Meyersdal koppie.

Meyersdal residents can make it to O.R. Tambo International Airport within roughly 32 minutes via the N12 which is 30.1 km away. It takes approximately 15 minutes to drive 15.1 km from Johannesburg CBD to Meyersdal.
