Grabouw - Western Cape Real Estate

Grabouw, which was established as a trading station in 1856, is situated in the heart of the Elgin Valley and surrounded by the Hottentots Holland and Groenland Mountains. It borders the Kogelberg Biosphere reserve, a protected area of magnificent fynbos. Although a mere hour's drive from the City of Cape Town, 65 km from Cape Town International, 25 km from Somerset Mall, you'll certainly feel you're in a completely different world once you're here, far away from the hassle of urban life.

On the city side you have spectacular views from Sir Lowry's Pass over Falsbay, then the scenic N2 highway continues into our valley, sweeping through a cozy forests, orchards and vineyards, and out over eastern portal, the Houw Hoek Pass.

The ascent to the crest of the Hottentots Holland Mountains wasn't always this easy. The first formal road was built in 1830, but long before this the 1400 m high mountain range was crossed in ox wagons. Life in the Overberg (over the mountain) was a lot tougher then, and it look real adventurers to set off and start farming in this then remote valley with its seemingly endless mountain peaks. Today the region is world-famous for its fruit trees, cool-climate wines and roses and it is an integral part of the Four Passes Fruit Route.
