Paternoster at a glance
Paternoster is situated on the Cape West Coast, some 140km north of Cape Town. This quaint and picturesque fisherman's village is one of the oldest towns on the West Coast where people come to relax and get away from city life.
Here one can savour the local delicacies such as crayfish, black and white mussels and snoek (an extremely tasty white fish). There are 8km of unspoilt beaches to explore as well as one of the few nesting sites of the endangered oystercatcher. Whales and dolphins frequently visit the waters of the bay. But mainly, one can just relax with the waves, gulls and occassionally, the foghorn, as your only company.
Nearby Tieties Bay offers various hiking trails, the Cape Columbine Lighthouse (the first SA lighthouse to be sighted by ships en-route from Europe to SA) and one of the best sea kayaking spots in the world.
There are strict architectural guidelines with a strong fisherman-influenced architecture. This is what makes Paternoster totally unique and one of the most sought-after coastal towns in South Africa. Prices in this village have soared by a record-breaking 117% during the 12 months from November '06 to October '07.
In Paternoster one doesn't buy just a property - one buys a lifestyle. One of peace and tranquility.
