The brand new Cape Town stadium has been built especially for the 2010 World Cup. The stadium is a stone’s throw away from the city centre and the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, and is just a short walk from the transportation hub of the city. The stadium, situated on Green Point Common, stretching between Signal Hill and the Atlantic Ocean towards Sea Point, has the capacity of holding 70 000 cheering fans, vuvuzelas and all.
The Stadium will host eight matches, including a quarter final and a semi-final. Post FIFA World Cup, the stadium is expected to be used by some of the Cape Town-based professional football associations such as Ajax Cape Town and Santos; in addition to the possible movement of the Western Province Rugby Union to the stadium.
